On a sunny (and very hot) Sunday in August White Cliffs Primary and Nursery School tried something new. The school entered a float into Dover Carnival. Children from Year 4 and 5 were invited to take part. Children were invited into school during the school holidays to create their own costumes. The theme of this years float was 'Books and reading'.  A huge thank you to the children from White Cliffs Primary and Nursery school who took part. You were amazing and represented the school beautifully. We are delighted to say White Cliffs came FIRST in their category! We need to say a big thank you to lots of people who helped make this possible: Amber Rescue in Folkestone for providing the float Deal Scaffolding for making the frame The amazing staff who planned, organised and made all this happen!

Year 3 have been looking at skeletons and bones in science and this week investigated whether a longer femur length (thigh bone) meant that you could jump further. They had to think about making our test fair, jumping in the same way, starting behind the line and measuring from the same place on everyone's feet. They found that the length of the femur didn't affect the length of the jump, and some of the children with the shortest leg measurements actually had the longest jumps.

Fledglings have been making turtle and jellyfish themed sun catchers. Have a look at pick up, they are fantastic!

This week at Be a Bee Hero Club, the children drilled holes in wood to make a house area for the bees and bugs. They all used an electric drill and were very sensible. Mr Mills is going to put them high up on the walls in the playground.  

Thank you to everyone who came to the Sports Days. The children performed wonderfully, despite the high temperatures.

The sun was shining, and fun was had by all of Year 4 on Tuesday when Ash from Roman Britain Schools visited to bring their learning to life. The children learnt about the Roman army and why they were so successful, looking at their armour and even trying it on! Next, the children were shown different aspects of Roman life and Ash cooked a 2000-year-old lentil stew on an open fire. Afterwards, the children looked at different Roman artefacts, trying to discover the red herring, before finally becoming a centurion and trying to survive in battle.   "My favourite part was trying on the armour and using the wax tablets because it was fun trying out the items the Romans used. Also, seeing and feeling what it would like to be a Roman for the day." – Jasmine

Today the children in Year 3, the Butterfly and Dragonfly class visited Sandwich Bird Observatory. They learnt about the different insects living in this beautiful conservation area. The children were taught about how to protect the delicate balance of wildlife. The amazing staff and volunteers planned some amazing activities and brought learning to life.  The children had lots to share when they returned to school: Alby- It was very fascinating to learn about the habitats of different species like grass snakes and moles. Oscar- I liked the slow worms because they looked like a snake. Lucian- I really liked seeing the lizard George- I enjoyed learning about the wildflowers. Eva- I liked finding out new things and seeing animals I've never seen before in their habitats. Kyle- Flowers have pretty petals so bees and other animals can spot them to pollinate them. Kynan- I liked doing the challenges because they were interesting Jacob- I caught three cardinal beetles! Freddie- So I found out a fact about buttercups, some are poisonous and they trick animals into eating them. Nancy- I enjoyed everything!    

On Tuesday 30th April 2024, our Head Boy, Head Girl, their Deputies and our School Council took a trip to London to visit the Houses of Parliament! They had a tour of The Houses of Parliament, where they were able to go into the House of Lords and watch a debate in the House of Commons. Then to finish their day, they participated in a workshop making decisions as a democracy and learning about the Suffragettes.

KS1 visited Dover Athletic Club to participate in the Dover School Games football festival. White Cliffs had three teams who all did really well and there was so much excitement getting to play in the stadium.  Check the Physical Education page for more pictures .
