In Science this term, Year 4 have been learning about sound. The children created their very own ear defenders, exploring which materials reduced the level of noise before testing them at their very own rock concert with Hall and Jones. Great fun was had by all!

Today the children in Year 3, the Butterfly and Dragonfly class visited Sandwich Bird Observatory. They learnt about the different insects living in this beautiful conservation area. The children were taught about how to protect the delicate balance of wildlife. The amazing staff and volunteers planned some amazing activities and brought learning to life.  The children had lots to share when they returned to school: Alby- It was very fascinating to learn about the habitats of different species like grass snakes and moles. Oscar- I liked the slow worms because they looked like a snake. Lucian- I really liked seeing the lizard George- I enjoyed learning about the wildflowers. Eva- I liked finding out new things and seeing animals I've never seen before in their habitats. Kyle- Flowers have pretty petals so bees and other animals can spot them to pollinate them. Kynan- I liked doing the challenges because they were interesting Jacob- I caught three cardinal beetles! Freddie- So I found out a fact about buttercups, some are poisonous and they trick animals into eating them. Nancy- I enjoyed everything!    

Year 4 had a brilliant time on Tuesday 21st May at their ‘Roman Day’. The children made shields; created mosaic pictures and wrote a banquet invite (in Latin). They learnt Roman chants and held a Roman Banquet.

On Tuesday 30th April 2024, our Head Boy, Head Girl, their Deputies and our School Council took a trip to London to visit the Houses of Parliament! They had a tour of The Houses of Parliament, where they were able to go into the House of Lords and watch a debate in the House of Commons. Then to finish their day, they participated in a workshop making decisions as a democracy and learning about the Suffragettes.

KS1 visited Dover Athletic Club to participate in the Dover School Games football festival. White Cliffs had three teams who all did really well and there was so much excitement getting to play in the stadium.  Check the Physical Education page for more pictures .   

In term 4, Year 6 have started to learn about Viking myths and legends. Two local artists, Frazer and Rainna, joined them to teach them many different skills whilst working with clay, such as pinching, joining and smoothing. The children learnt how to make a pinch pot, coil pot and then had some free time to put their new skills to use. There were Viking longboats, shields and helmets made, as well as some Viking amulets that had runes incorporated into their designs.  

White Cliffs have been asked to enter some daffodil pictures into the Temple Ewell gardeners spring show next weekend. Our art club did these lovely works of art to enter. We will find out after Easter how they got on.

We were delighted to have Network Rail visit us this week and talk to the whole school about safety on the railway.  Years 5 and 6 were lucky enough to then take part in workshops where they used their maths skills to read timetables and work out train times as well as examine the nuts, bolts and screws which hold the tracks together along with the huge spanner used to tighten the nuts and bolts during repairs.  Did you know it takes the length of 20 football pitches for a train to emergency stop?  Did you know that a fully loaded train carriage is the weight of 80 elephants?  Check out Network Rail's safety video:  https://www.networkrail.co.uk/communities/safety-in-the-community/safety-education/      

On Monday 25th March, the children from Key Stage One visited Wingham Wildlife Park. T his was part of their topic, ‘Amazing Animals’. Everyone had a wonderful day.
