Year 2 enjoyed an exciting lesson about the Great Fire of London. They discovered what fire looks like, experienced its smoky smell, and felt the heat it gives off from a safe distance. This hands-on experience helped the children imagine what life was like in London in 1666 and brought their history learning to life! They even got to enjoy some toasted marshmallows!

They explored a range of different items and practised putting on their own coats and gloves, helping to build confidence and independence. The children also enjoyed using printing and collage techniques to create colourful pictures of jumpers, hats, gloves and scarves. As part of this creative work, they developed their fine motor skills by cutting and shaping a variety of materials for their artwork.

This week our next stop in our learning was Germany. We have learnt that Germany is in the same continent as us; Europe. We discussed how children go to school and the different traditions German people have- such as special food, breakfasts and clothing. We looked at different landmarks and have been reading traditional fairy tales by the Brothers Grimm. In Art, we used lolly sticks to create our very own cuckoo clocks. We watched how real clocks are made and discovered they had whistles inside to make the special sound.
