Following on from last week's alien spaceship landing at White Cliffs, Reception have made their own aliens out of playdough – don’t they look amazing!  The children also discovered that the aliens crash landed on the school roof and left behind lots of interesting items. On Wednesday, the children who achieved 100% attendance in Term 3 were given an extra special reward… bouncy castle time and a slice of pizza!   The children all thoroughly enjoyed themselves. 

Year 3 had great fun dressing up for their Stone Age theme day. They had a go at soap knapping to make hand axes and spear heads. They made Stone Age Oatcakes, tie-died using natural dyes found in spinach, beetroot and turmeric and made their own paints using clay and mud dug up on the school grounds to create cave art. "My favourite part was the soap knapping because it was fun"- Eva-Mae "I liked the doing the knapping because I liked looking at the artefacts first and seeing if I could make the same shapes" - Freddie "My favourite bit was making the oatcakes, it reminded me of porridge"- Nancy "I was good at the cave art and mixing my own paints, I painted a Stone Age man with my fingers, my paint was made from clay"- Albie- Ian "You had to tie the material up and then tie it up really tight and then we put it into the dye made of spinach, we're going to get it out the next day. I think mine will be green" -Stanley  

On Monday KS1 travelled back in time and experienced life as a Victorian child in a Victorian school. The children practised cursive handwriting and arithmetic using chalk. They took part in and experienced 'drill' (PE) on the playground. " It was lots of fun and Mrs Pallett was very funny" " I wouldn't like to live in Victorian times because it was boring in school"

What an exciting lesson for Year 6 this term! They had the chance to dissect hearts to try and locate the different parts that they had learnt about. Most of them were able to identify the four chambers and the septum, as well as a range of vessels. Two groups even managed to find a valve! Isabelle – “I was interested at how thick the fat was on the outside of the heart, and then the thick blood clots on the inside. And we found a valve too! The heart was not as I expected it to be, I thought it would be bigger.” Danielius – “I found the tubes fascinating and looking at where they went to. I really enjoyed examining the heart and seeing things that I hadn’t seen before with my own eyes. I didn’t know that the pig’s hearts or animal hearts would be the same as a human heart, I thought it would be a lot more bloody.”

On Tuesday we welcomed Future Foundry back to White Cliffs to run a parent workshop. Zo, Amelia and Lisa came to the school to show some of our parents what they can create at home with one of their favourite resources - cardboard! After watching a demo, the parents worked with their children to create beautiful crowns (and even some sceptres too!) It was brilliant to see families crafting together, with smiles on their faces. At the end of the session the children showed off their creations in a celebration of everyone's creativity. Lots of fun! Year 5 have been really lucky this week as John has brought in an original newspaper from the day the titanic sunk in 1912. This newspaper is over 100 years old and has been really interesting for us to look through while learning about our Titanic topic!   Kaydie "It was so interesting and I cannot believe it is from the day after it sunk."   Poppy "I can't believe it is older than me and Mr Grylls."   Charlie "It was so cool that you can see the real pictures of those on the titanic."    Bethany "I am so shocked it is still in such good condition."   Z "It told us facts about the titanic that we didn't even know before."

On Friday, Butterfly class created artwork just like cavemen. They flipped the desks on their sides to create their caves and saw what it was like for Stone Age man when creating cave paintings on a vertical surface. They used pencil to start and then progressed to charcoal creating drawings in the style of the cave art that they have been studying. Cave paintings have helped them to ask questions about what life was like for early man. 

Every year we ask the children and families of White Cliffs to help decorate our Christmas Trees and 2023's decorations are amazing!  Thank you to everyone who has created one of these amazing decorations - our trees look fab!  #wearewhitecliffs
