29/02/2024Planting with Southern Water
This week two lucky children from each class, got the opportunity to plant various plants and flowers into our huge, new, raised planters on our playgrounds.
We are one 40 schools across Kent, who have teamed up with Southern Water to install special ‘water slowing’ solutions on their grounds – so the sewer network is protected during and after heavy rainfall.
Thanks to a £1.7m project jointly funded by Southern Water and the Department for Education, schools across Kent, East Sussex, West Sussex, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight have had sustainable drainage systems (SuDS) installed.
Our planters were kindly donated by Southern Water in a mission to preserve water. The planters collect rainwater from the drainpipes so there is no need for watering cans.
All the children had a great time digging and getting dirty!
